Don't Wait - DONATEAll of the services provided at BAO are free of charge and would not be possible without gifts from supporters like you. Birmingham AIDS Outreach is more than an agency offering services; it is a place for our HIV positive neighbors to gather, grow, share events in their lives, and feel dignified. Every life deserves hope. With your continued support we will be here until there is a cure. Please consider making a year-end, tax deductible gift to Birmingham AIDS Outreach so that we may continue to provide life-enhancing services to HIV positive individuals in our community. Thank you for supporting BAO and those we serve.

Birmingham AIDS Outreach is the first AIDS Service Organization (ASO) in
Alabama to release a smartphone app focusing on AIDS education. The free "BAO" app debuted May 1 and is available on the iTunes store as well as the Android platform. The app was recently featured on both
al.com and
thebody.com (a national HIV education website and reporting organization).
Education Director Josh Bruce designed the app to help BAO use social media to stay up-to-date on the technology ... and stay even better connected to the community. The primary goal of the BAO app is to encourage regular HIV Testing. One of the functions is a statewide ASO locator that maps out centers offering free testing and condoms. The app also offers a handy reference guide for HIV/AIDS terms as well as updates on BAO events.
Other functions of the app include a button for BINGO reservations, a glossary of HIV terms, a donation button, and a facebook button. Future plans for this summer include an interactive function with the 21st Annual AIDS Walk (scheduled for Sunday 16 September) and a calendar option to encompass testing reminders.
Every 10 minutes, someone in the United States is infected with HIV. A preventive vaccine against HIV offers the best long-term hope to end this worldwide epidemic. Finding a safe and effective HIV vaccine that will protect people is a huge task.
We cannot do it without your help.

Anne Bet is a bright star at both Birmingham AIDS Outreach and the 1917 Clinic at UAB. Several months ago Anne decided that
she wanted to give back to the community and volunteer with BAO. During our initial meeting with Anne, she informed us that she was
going to celebrate her upcoming birthday by hosting a fundraiser for Birmingham AIDS Outreach! Anne rented Sloss Furnace, ordered
catering and an amazing "Swing Band", and hosted one of the best Swing Dance Parties that the Magic City has seen! The event was a
wonderful fundraiser for Birmingham AIDS Outreach, where guests danced under the moon and stars at Sloss Furnace. Anne has been
volunteering since then, including working at Arty Party and helping with this year's Magic City AIDS Walk.
HIV research is where Anne's heart lies. She is currently working on her graduate degree, focusing on HIV research with the 1917 Clinic at UAB. Anne is also an amazing artist and has participated in several national conferences showing both her HIV research as well as her artwork about the virus
The iCare project, is a new endeavor launched by Birmingham AIDS Outreach. This exciting project serves to spotlight individuals who have supported BAO in many different ways including volunteering, attending community events, and attending fundraisers.
We want to hear your story! Tell us about your experiences being involved with BAO and why you share our mission, to enhance the lives of individuals who are living with HIV and AIDS. If you are interested in participating in the iCare project, please contact Jamie Whitehurst (jamie@birminghamaidsoutreach.org).
